Assessment of qualifications and PLT
Assessment of academic qualifications
If you completed the academic requirements for admission in a foreign jurisdiction (outside Australia), you must have your qualification assessed by the LPAB's Academic Exemptions Sub-Committee, before you apply for admission as a lawyer in NSW.
Information about applying for an assessment of your academic qualification is in section 5 of the Guide for Applicants for Admission as a Lawyer.
Determinations are made with reference to the Uniform Principles for Assessing Qualifications of Overseas Applicants for Admission to the Australian Legal Profession.
Please allow between 4 to 6 weeks for assessment applications to be determined.
Assessment of Practical Legal Training (PLT)
If you completed the practical legal training requirements (PLT) for admission and have been admitted in a foreign jurisdiction (outside Australia), you will need to apply to the LPAB's Practical Training Exemptions Sub-Committee, for an assessment of your training and experience against the PLT prerequisite. You need to obtain this assessment before you apply for admission as a lawyer in NSW.
Information about applying for PLT exemptions is in section 7 of the Guide for Applicants for Admission as a Lawyer.
Determinations are made with reference to the Uniform Principles for Assessing Qualifications of Overseas Applicants for Admission to the Australian Legal Profession.
Decisions are made at a meeting of the Practical Training Exemptions Sub-Committee. Deadlines for applications to be considered at a meeting are in the LPAB's 'Events and Deadlines' calendar.
